The MDT decided in 2012 to introduce a new mountaineering award system to South Africa. The accompanying documents set this award system out and also the exact way in which courses will be conducted. In the past there were few or no notes for instructors to follow. This will hopefully now be something of the past.
Both these documents are now open for comment from the rest of the MDT and members of the public. Any proposed changes or comments must be addresses to the Chairman, MDT, Gavin Raubenheimer [email protected]
Comments can be made until 11 April 2014.
The main proposals in these documents is that there will in future be three types of MDT training courses. These are recreational courses with no assessment, leader courses with assessment and instructor courses with assessment. The mountain walking courses will also in future fall in line with the British equivalents.
Lastly the new awards will be shown to instructors by way of training workshops later in 2014.
